Pournami (Telugu: పౌర్ణమి) is a 2006 Telugu language film directed by choreographer-turned director Prabhu Deva. It stars Trisha, Prabhas, Charmy, Rahul Dev, and Sindhu Tolani.  The movie had a lot of pre-release hype because of Prabhas and Krishnan's earlier hit, Varsham. However, despite the huge cast, the film's performance at the box office was a commercial failure. The film has been dubbed into Tamil  as Pournami and in Hindi as Tridev - Pyaar Ki Jung. The film was inspired from the 2001 Brazilian film Behind the Sun starring Rodrigo Santoro which in itself was adapted from an Albanian novel by Ismail Kadare.

Plot

Long ago, a great drought befell a village. A dancer from a traditional family came forth to dance in the Shiva temple for many days and nights. Her dedication to Lord Shiva and the village earn her the respect of the god and Goddess Parvati. They bless the village with rains ending the drought. The dancer's dying wish is that a girl from her family must dance on pournami (full moon night) every 12 years in front of the temple.
This brings us to present day - another 12th year when the dance will take place. Pournami (Trisha), the elder daughter of the family goes missing. Rumours of her eloping are rampant among the villagers, much to her father's chagrin. Pournami's younger sister Chandrakala (Charmy) never learnt the dance as her father refused to teach her (after Pournami's disappearance).
Chandrakala's stepmother rules the house with an iron fist. She rents out an extra room of their house to earn some money, which is taken by Siva Kesava (Prabhas), a Western-style dance instructor.
The film follows Chandrakala and Siva's growing relationship, as they navigate family connections and a lecherous zamindar (Rahul Dev) to prepare for the next Pournami dance ritual. It is later discovered that Pournami when eloped loves and marries Siva Kesava and after her unexpected death he is told to return to Pournami's village where he teaches the villain a lesson and Chandrakala is also taught to dance for the ritual

Plot

The city of Chennai is filled with furious rowdies trying to get hold of an innocent man that has shouted at the gang leader yelling at the gang leader's friend. Suddenly, Khaal Gundhi, the gang leader(Prakash Raj) stops the innocent man and the rowdies. He snickers and slowly walks towards the innocent man and suddenly stabs him with a pocket knife hidden behind his hands. Khaal Gundhi says "Whoever they are that tries to kill him, will start their death in my hands."
The film then winds into a flashback in Madras that shows Ashok (Vijay) at the tea shop getting some tea with Khaal Gundhi. Khaal Gundhi asks "Where do do we have to go next? The other gang might kidnap the children to get money from their parents, but we don't know where they are all at." Khall Gundhi tells Ashok "The reason why they are trying to do this is because they want money and they want to kill people that always get in their ways, we did, but they couldn't kill us. They might find out that we are going to help the children go back home and do some plans." Ashok remains silent. Ashok tells Khall Gundhi "I have already made the plans. Ghala (Dev Gill) the gang leader planned to go to a Madras abandoned place and kill them their if their parents don't give them $900,000 dollars." Khaal Gundhi asks "What have you done to help the kids?" Ashok says he went to the place today and fought the gang leader and freed the kids and bought them back home safely. Khaal Gundhi smiles. Then the song "Madurai en veeda" (Translation: Madurai my home.) In the song, you get a glimpse of Vijay and Prakash Raj acting in a song together for the first time as friends.
Then. Shruthi, (Asin), walks with her friends to her house. She greets her friends to her family and goes upstairs to her room. They suddenly look out the window and spot Ashok with Khaal Gundhi. One of the friends tease Shurthi and tell her that she will soon get married to Ashok. Shurthi groans in disgust. Soon there is a knock on the door. Pala Thanda (Vivek), a close relative of Shruthi comes to visit her. He tells her that she is in deep danger. He says that there are a gang that is very bad and kills people that are on the block. He tells her to keep an eye on them. He rushes in hurry to leave. Shruthi turns frozen. She looks out the window and spots a lot of people surrounding Ashok and Khaal gundhi. Then she spots Ghala's gang and supposes that the bad gang is Ashok's gang. She keeps in her mind that she should stay away from Ashok and his gang.
INTERMISSION
Meanwhile, things with Ashok is going fine. One day, he walks down the street and surprisingly, Shruthi walks down the street too. She is too busy talking to her friends that she forgets that Ashok is infront of her walking. Shurthi suddenly turns up and spots Ashok. She stops her friends and Ashok spots her shocked looking at him. He stares stragnly at the look of her face and she does too. She whispers to her friends to go back home but Ashok tells her to stop. He walks infront of her and asks her what the problem was. Shruthi stuttered and lied by saying some rowdies were chasing her and her friends. Ashok was filled with anger. He asked why and she said that they wanted money from her. The only thing that came up in Ashok's mind was Ghala's gang member, Deva (Sudeep). Deva was sometimes more evil than Ghala and Ashok knew it. He asked her what his name was. Shurthi stuttered again and guessed to say Deva. Ashok get furious, he always did this to everyone and that he would always have to chase him down. Ashok pushed Shurthi and ran to Ghala's gang place. Shruthi and her friends ran to Pala Thanda's house and told him that she met Ashok. Pala looked down scared and said that all he said was a lie. Shurthi was shocked. She asked furiously why. Pala Thanda said that he heard there was a gang of rowdies in town but the rowdy that he pointed to wasn't the bad rowdy. He was the good rowdy that is trying to beat the bad rowdies. He shows her a picture of the bad rowdies. Shurthi insanely hits Pala Thanda with her bag. Shurthi gets scared because she got all scared infront of Ashok and told him a lie. "He might go and kill someone named Deva!" she thought. She quickly left the house and ran to her house. On the way she spotted Ashok. Ashok was very furious. He noticed that all she said was a lie. He has got beaten too because Ghala hit him, now Ghala has plans for him to die. Ashok slaps Shruthi and yells at her to the core. Shruthi then runs to her home crying while Ashok feels guilty for making someone cry but also remembers that what she did was wrong too.
Shruthi then thinks about what she did. She lied and said that rowdies were chasing her but Ashok still helped her. If it was true, then it's true love. Shruthi starts to like Ashok, then the song "Passam O" appears in a scene.
Meanwhile, Khaal Gundhi and the rest of the gang members are thinking of a way to break apart Ghala's gang and defeat them all. Then Ashok joins them in their place. Ahsok tells Khaal gundhi what Shruthi has done and what Ghala's gang is trying to do. Khaal Gundhi gets very upset at Ashok. He tries to think of a plan when the TV suddenly turns on to the news channel. It said "Welcome citizens of India. Be ware of the most dangerous rowdy in Madras, Ashok Balasubram. He might have saved us all from deep troubls from a secret other bad gang, but now we have gotten a report from someone named Deva that Ashok Balasubram was planning to kill three children until a man named Ghala Kevanraj helped all the children's lives. The police will soon find out this rowdy and bring him to jail. Until then, you should be aware of this name." Ashok was frozen. Khaal Gundhi was too. They all didn't know what to do next. Ashok went outside and took the newspaper. He suddenly saw his photo printed on the paper. A old man was reading the paper and looked up and spotted Ashok. He screamed and a big crowd appeared. They all saw him too and the police cars were coming. The police grabbed his arms and took him into the jeep. One man said "HE DESERVED IT! AN IDIOT LIKE HIM SHOULD GO TO JAIL AND DIE!" Khaal Gundhi got mad and left.
Khaal Gundhi and the members think of a way to get Ashok out of jail. Khaal Gundhi says that he has to wait to go to court with Deva. Soon, at court Khaal Gundhi wins and soon gets to free Ashok out of jail. Everyone is happy except Khaal Gundhi. He soon remembers what the man said about Ashok. He left and suddenly found the man on the street. Khaal and the gang members came and spotted him. Thats when the present day comes and shows Khaal Gundhi kill the innocent man. Ashok comes out and sees all this and slaps Khaal Gundhi. Khaal Gundhi tears up seeing his best friend slap him. Ashok says "How dare you kill an innocent man! We are a gang to do good deeds not kill people that did nothing worng!" Ashok got mad and told Khaal Gundhi to never do this again. Khaal Gundhi promises him that he won't do it.
Shurthi then goes to the mall. While she is walking down the streets, she spots Ashok again. Shruthi then feels scared because she heard on the news that Ashok went to jail for doing bad things. Shurthi ran back home. Ashok didn't spot her. Shurthi ran to her bed and looked out her window. She saw Ashok trying to help a blind kid cross the road but the kid's mom ran and quickly pushed Ahsok away and ran back to her home with her kid. Shurthi got scared and thought that Ashok was trying to kill the kid. She then got mad and ran outside. She started at him strangly. Ashok stood shocked. Suddenly, Shruthi slapped him. She said "Why would you try to kill children for money? What it your problem!?" Shruthi screamed. Ashok stood upset. He tried to explain to her and tell her that he didn't do anything bad but Shruthi didn't listen. Ashok felt upset and left. Shurthi started crying in her room. Her true love was broken and shattered to pieces.
Khaal Gundhi then thinks of a way to kill Ghala and his members because they made Ashok go to jail. He thinks of putting a bomb in their secret gang place. Khaal Gundhi smiles and tells the gang members the plan. Khaal Gundhi secretly keeps this away from Ashok because Ahsok doesn't want to kill the opposite bad gang, he just wants to teach them a lesson to do the good deeds instead of the bad deeds. The film then goes onto a "to be continued" ending. The squeal was announced on February 7, 2014.

Plot

Shiva (Akshay Kumar) is a small-time thief in Mumbai who falls in love with Paro (Sonakshi Sinha) from Patna, who is in Mumbai to attend a marriage. Shiva makes his way into Paro's heart by going to the marriage. Slowly, she starts loving him. Shiva tells her the truth about him being a thief and resolves to give up crime forever because he loves Paro dearly. But before that, he decides to swindle one last person for a large sum of money along with his con-friend 2G (Paresh Ganatra). He tricks a woman on a railway station (Gurdeep Kohli) and flees with a trunk. This leads Shiva to Chinki (Ananya Nayak), a girl who was in the trunk instead of the wealth he thought was there, who thinks that he is her father. Flummoxed by what is happening, but forced to keep Chinki with him as a police officer (Yashpal Sharma) keeps his eye on him.
While keeping Chinki with him, Shiva fears that he will get caught by Paro and lose her forever. He searches through the trunk, where he first saw Chinki, to see who is Chinki's real father. Shiva then spots a photo of Chinki and her father. Her father looks exactly like Shiva, realising why Chinki had called him her father. Surprised to see the photo, Shiva and 2G decide to go find Chinki's father.
Here it is revealed that Chinki's father is Vikram Rathore (Akshay Kumar), who is a danger to criminals. While chasing a goon to find his daughter, Rathore gets hit by an auto and falls down a hill. Then his brain gets aggravated and he gets severe pain. While being there for some time to hide from the goons who are after him, Rathore slowly makes his way to a faucet, turns it on, and runs water all over his head, making him come back to normal. At the hospital, his doctor tells him that the injury in his brain is very serious, and can put his life in danger.
After having Chinki with him for some days, Shiva gets fed up with her and breaks her tape recorder. The next morning, he hears Chinki cry. After Shiva learns that Chinki's mother died, he gets deeply hurt for what he has done to Chinki and he starts to love and take care of her. Unfortunately, Paro sees this and misunderstands Shiva. She angrily leaves for Patna. Depressed, Shiva and Chinki walk sadly in Mumbai. Soon, the goons who are after Rathore, see Shiva. Thinking that he is Rathore, they start chasing him. While he and Chinki are running for their life, they encounter the lady at the train station as well as the police officer from earlier, who tell Shiva to run. While running, Chinki becomes unconscious. Shiva then reaches a construction site and is soon surrounded by the goons. Their leader pushes him down and says these things which Shiva has no idea about. It is revealed that Rathore is watching the whole thing from the top. Just as Shiva is about to get stabbed by a goon, Rathore quickly takes a weapon, jumps down and kills the goon.
The goons see this and are surprised to see two identical men. Even Shiva can't believe this. Rathore puts Shiva and Chinki in a cell for safety and locks them up. Then a fight starts in which Rathore beats up some goons. But while fighting, Rathore injures his brain, giving the goons the chance to attack him. Eventually, Rathore gets stabbed by the leader. But then rain starts to fall, bringing Rathore to his senses. He gets back up, even though he is severely injured, and kills every goon himself. After this, the railway station lady and the police inspector salute him. Rathore then collapses on the ground and faints. At the hospital, Shiva and Chinki appear to be okay, and Shiva realises that those two people he encountered before are real police officers. Shiva asks the doctor about Rathore. The doctor replies that the injuries are more than worse, but they're trying their best. The police officers then tell Shiva that the man who looks like Shiva is ACP Vikram Rathore, a disciplined and respected police officer. The police officers then narrate Shiva of this whole incident.
Six months ago in a village near Patna called Devgarh lived a goon who was called Baabji (Nassar). His son Munna (Amit Kumar Tiwari) used to trouble, torture and annexe money from people. When Rathore arrived to Devgarh, he found out about Baabji and his criminal activities and he immediately arrested his son. But Munna was released because Baabji was friends with the minister. After a big party for the release of Munna, Rathore tricked him into killing himself by hanging himself from a tree by the belt of a humiliated inspector. The next day, Rathore got attacked by Baapji's brother Titla (Supreeth Reddy) on Dusshehra where he is stabbed from the back as well as shot in the head while trying to save a village child. He was then assumed to be dead. While the police officers were getting ready to bury him, he started breathing. Apparently, he survived the attack. Everybody at the funeral promised not to disclose this to anybody. Then the officers quickly took Rathore to Mumbai for treatment. But a lot of doctors said that it was impossible to cure this injury.
After Shiva hears the whole story, the doctors come to them and say that Rathore doesn't have much time left. Rathore requests Shiva to take care of his daughter. Shiva promises and says that Chinki is now his daughter. Rathore smiles and dies while holding Shiva's hand. Feeling depressed by what happened, Shiva promises to finish Rathore's unfinished work. He officially takes up the identity of ACP Vikram Rathore. Rathore goes to Devgarh with Chinki to take revenge on Baabji. Rathore sets Baabji's factory on fire and Baabji gets beaten up by the other police officers. Meanwhile Paro finds out the truth about Shiva, Chinki, the death of her real father, and that Shiva is now & will always be Rathore. She apologises and tells Rathore that she will also take care of Chinki. Titla, who realises that Rathore is alive, kidnaps Paro and Chinki. Rathore appears and a fight starts. At the end of the fight, Rathore ties Titla and Baabji to a rope on a bridge and cuts the rope. Baabji and Titla fall hard on the ground and die. The people of Devgarh are now safe and they start a celebration. After getting promotion, Rathore marries Paro and starts his new life as a police officer with Paro, Chinki, and 2G.

Release

The film's satellite rights was sold for INR350 million (US$5.8 million).  The film released worldwide on 1 June 2012. Rowdy Rathore was released in 2,300 screens in India and around 400 screens overseas.

Critical reception

Rowdy Rathore received mixed reviews from critics. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 4 stars, saying, "If you savor typical masaledaar fares, this one should be on your have-to-watch listing for certain. Dhamaal entertainer!"  DNA India gave 3 stars out of 5 and said, "Rowdy is Akshay's return to action. And how! The actor takes charge of the film from the first scene and holds it tight all through. To put it simply, the film is to Akshay what Wanted was for Salman!"  Srijana Mitra Das for The Times of India gave the film 3 stars of 5, and said, "Fans will love Akshay's mooch-twirling masala-act but be ready for hardcore action too — some pretty gruesome."
Mrigank Dhaniwala for Koimoi.com gave it 3 stars out of 5, and gave the verdict that the film entertains in parts. "Watch it for Akshay Kumar's performance and the comedy."  Shomini Sen from Zee News also gave 3 stars out of 5 and said, "The premise of the film may be good, but the treatment is that of a typical south Indian pot boiler."  Based on 21 reviews, review aggregate site desimartini.com gave the verdict, "Although the movie doesn't do complete justice to the original Telugu blockbuster, it does have some funny dialogues and action sequences that will make you want to whistle! Rowdy Rathore is a one time watch." The site's average audience rating is 2.5/5.
Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave movie 1 star out of 5 and said "Rowdy Rathore is the kind of movie that's made by people with a cash register in place of their brain. Because no legitimate reason, other than financial gain, can justify why this movie was made – it has no story or plot whatsoever, the characters are entirely forgettable, and it's so long and loud and silly that the laughs dry up early on. That the film has such impressive pedigree – it's produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, directed by Prabhudeva, and stars Akshay Kumar – is both baffling and shameful."  Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave the film 2 stars out of 5, saying, "Rowdy Rathore plays out pretty much like a comic-book fantasy rendered in the form of a live-action film. Go for it if you must, but don't expect the earth from it."  Blessy Chettiar of DNA India gave the film 2 stars out of 5, concluding, "Akshay's me-too is fun while it lasts. Watch it for him, lest he feels bad for jumping on the South remake bandwagon too late to get any attention."  Raja Sen of Rediff.com too gave the film 2 stars out of 5, and commented, "It can hardly be called a film, but ah well. Watch it if only to remind yourself of old Khiladi flicks...."  Oneindia.in criticised the film's illogical plot, however concluded saying, "Overall, Rowdy Rathore is a total paisa wasool film, hence it's a must watch."
Trisha Gupta of Firstpost reviewed "Rowdy Rathore is a mess of maal, masala and moustache while it has neither the wit nor the charm needed to craft a real send-up".  Mayank Shekhar, on his website theW14.com, says "While you can't tell one Akshay Kumar from the other in this film, you obviously can't tell this film from any other action hit from recent or distant past either. That's what a dead formula film is supposed to be. Going by box-office figures, the producers, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and UTV, are certain this is what the audiences currently desire. They probably do. Is this what they deserve? I'm not sure.

After the film's release and subsequent success, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which oversees the famous Academy Awards, sent a formal letter to producer Viki Rajani asking for a copy of the film's script to be kept in the Oscar Library. Thanga Durai is a former associate in Amal Raj's business, and now establishes his own business empire in the same vicinity, opposite to Amal Raj's factory. He boasts of his sons achievements. However, Amal Raj dislikes Thanga Durai's ill mannered, clumsy and bizarre antics though Thomas and Priya have known each other in their child hood.
Thomas, happens to meet Priya at her school when he goes to a woman's hostel to see his aunt, mother superior (Arundhati Nag) a nun in that school church. Thomas takes Priya's help in surprising his aunt with a gift on her birthday. In the process, Thomas falls in love with priya but is unable to confess his love for her. In the midst of this, Thomas's friend Shiva takes him to hairstylist Deva (Prabhu Deva) who is notorious at changing women's minds. Deva befriends Priya to change her mind about being a nun.
At one instance, Priya performs singing at a Gala along with Deva's troupe, which puts the troupe into the limelight of a recording theatre owner. Production

AVM Productions wanted to make a film to commemorate its 50th anniversary in 1997 and signed on Prabhu Deva to play a lead role and A. R. Rahman to score the music for this unplanned project, but Rahman was initially reluctant as he had scored music for three of Prabhu Deva's films in the recent past. The producers revealed that they were looking for a new director and Rahman suggested the name of cinematographer, Rajiv Menon to make his directorial debut, after the pair had previously collaborated in jingles for many ad films.  Menon thought about the offer for two months and was ultimately convinced by Rahman and Mani Ratnam, who he had been working with in Bombay (1995), to sign the project.  Arvind Swamy was then signed up for a role as was Hindi actress Kajol, to make her debut in Tamil films. Kajol revealed that she found dancing alongside Prabhu Deva difficult and took up to twenty retakes and thirty rehearsals for a particular song.  Nassar, often seen in intense roles, was signed to play a bubbly character in the film and described the shoot as a "delightful experience".  Veteran actors Girish Karnad and V. K. Ramasamy were also added to the cast as was singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, who had previously appeared in father roles in Kaadhalan and Kadhal Desam. Actress Arundhati Nag and Prakash Raj also formed part of the cast, while then-assistant director Gautham Menon appears in a cameo role. It was dubbed in Telugu as Merupu Kalalu.
The film was shot in 1996 with two songs and the climax being shot at Lawrence School Chapel, Lovedale.  Prabhu Deva suffered a throat infection during post-production works and Vikram, then a struggling actor, dubbed for his character while Revathi dubbed for the non-Tamil speaking Kajol.

Release

The film was released on 14 January 1997 coinciding with the Tamil festival of Thai Pongal alongside Mani Ratnam's political drama film Iruvar, and though both films initially opened to a lukewarm response, Minsara Kanavu eventually emerged triumphant at the Tamil Nadu box office, and a dubbed Telugu version (Merupu Kalalu) had a good opening in Andhra Pradesh.  After audiences were initially unhappy with the sad climax of the film, distributors reverted and used an alternate ending which had also been shot for the film.  A critic from Indolink.com gave the film a positive review, stating that "Minsara Kanavu is again a triangular love story with a little difference. It has good entertainment value, awesome cinematography and execellent songs and choreographed dances."
The film was dubbed and released by ABC Films on 26 October 1997 in Hindi as Sapnay to capitulate on Kajol's popularity in Northern India, earning above average reviews from critics.  However the version failed commercially with reports suggesting that "bad dubbing" was the reason of failure and Rajiv Menon subsequently opted against dubbing his next film, Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) in Hindi.
Minsara Kanavu went on to win four National Film Awards, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and a Filmfare Award mostly for the film's soundtrack. The soundtrack earned A. R. Rahman the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for the second time, while he also secured his fourth Tamil Nadu State Award and his sixth consecutive Filmfare Award for his work.   K. S. Chitra and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer and Best Male Playback Singer for the tracks "Ooh La La La" and "Thanga Thamarai" respectively. Sujatha and Unni Menon won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback and Best Male Playback for two different tracks, "Poo Pookkum Oosai" and "Ooh La La La" respectively.  Meanwhile Prabhu Deva won the National Film Award for Best Choreography for his work in the song, "Vennilave".

The track "Vennilavae (Part 2)" was a sad version of the song "Vennilave" and was sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Kavita Paudwal and this track was featured in the movie only.
S. P. Balasubrahmanyam recalls the recording session of "Thanga Thamarai", mentioning that "it required a tone that reflected the feelings of someone totally smitten and intoxicated by love. The character singing the song in the film is on a high after finding his girl. I only tried my best to imitate Rahman, who sang it for me. The imitation fetched me a national award."  Playback singer Kay Kay was introduced by Rahman through the song "Strawberry Kannae". There is also a telugu dubbed soundtrack, Merupu Kalulu.

Lakshya (English: Goal (Target)) is a 2004 Bollywood war drama film directed by Farhan Akhtar, with stars Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Sharad Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Aditya Srivastava, Om Puri and Boman Irani. Hrithik Roshan plays the role of Lieutenant (later Acting Captain) Karan Shergill, who leads his team (initially 12, falling to 6 members) to victory over the Pakistani troops. It is a coming-of-age story with a fictionalized backdrop of the Kargil war.

Plot

Karan Shergill (Hrithik Roshan) is a young man who has no goal or plans for his future. His father is a businessman, his brother is a successful individual living in America. His girlfriend, Romi (Preity Zinta), a student activist and reporter who espouses fashionable causes out of well-meaning sincerity, tells him he needs to find a goal in life. When a friend announces he is going to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Karan applies as well, despite dissent from his parents.
To his surprise, Karan gets selected (though his friend backs out). But he is undisciplined and unused to the life there and keeps getting into trouble. Upset, he runs away from the academy, which causes Romi to break up with him. Karan finally comes to terms with his situation and makes his decision. He returns to the IMA, takes his punishment, and becomes a focused, disciplined cadet leader, graduating as an officer Lieutenant Karan Shergill.
Karan is posted to the 3rd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, commanded by Col. Sunil Damle (Amitabh Bachchan) in the Kargil sector, and handles his responsibilities well. Karan comes home on leave and finds out that Romi is getting engaged; he goes to the ceremony to congratulate her. Karan is recalled to his post as his leave is cut short due to outbreak of hostilities in Kargil.
He reports back to his post where he is promoted to the rank of Acting Captain. His battalion CO briefs the officers on the latest situation. The battalion has been assigned to secure Point 5179, a crucial vantage point dominating the army's main supply line, the NH1D. The first part of the assault is successful. The battalion destroys the enemy's screening units with Karan cited for his bravery in saving another officer's life. Meanwhile, Romi gets stationed as war correspondent, where she meets a metamorphosized Karan.
Karan learns that Romi broke off her engagement. She tries to renew her relationship with him amidst the war, but this time Karan declines her. In the second phase of the assault Karan's unit engages in a failed attempt to storm and capture the Pakistani strongholds on the mountain. The Pakistanis have the advantage due to their strategic position and deal the unit heavy losses during the attack. Capt. Shergill and a group of 12 are next given orders to encircle the enemy position and attack it from behind. To do this, they must scale a 1000-foot rock wall. Karan realizes that he has finally found his lakshya (goal) in the form of the wall.
After the unit sustains an attack in a grass field and loses their commanding officer, the remaining men scale the cliff and attack the Pakistani stronghold during the night. The movie ends with Col. Damle looking out across the mountains the next morning, to see an injured Capt. Karan hoisting the Indian flag atop the ruins of the stronghold. Karan's father, who was skeptical and disapproving of him, is now proud of his son. Karan is given a leave following his condition, whereupon he and Romi reunite.

Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na
(2004)
The film's soundtrack was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (SEL), with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.  Shaan's "Main Aisa Kyun Hoon", picturized on Hrithik, is a laid-back, funky-hip hop track.  "Agar Main Kahoon" is the love duet, picturized on Hrithik-Preity. The trio used harmonica for the track.  The title track "Lakshya" is a techno-flavored patriotic song by Shankar, which is followed by "Kandhon Se Milte", another patriotic song with the vocals of Kunal Ganjawala and Vijay Prakash. "Kitni Baatein", a pathos song, is crooned by Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam. There are two instrumentals, "Victory" and "Separation". The trumpet portion from "Victory" has been used as the background music for their logo by Excel.

The reception to the soundtrack ranged from mixed to positive. Joginder Tutja of Bollywood Hungama in his review, said "Lakshya does have good music that is very urban and will appeal to the class audience. Going by the theme of the movie, the album is pretty balanced and has been composed with style that speaks of class."  Planet Bollywood found the album to be "as good as Dil Chahta Hai".  Subhash K. Jha described the album as "daringly unusual sound with a show-offy kind of innovativeness".
Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com, however, remarked that, though the album was good, it was below expectations and "lacked punch".

Varsham (English translation: Rain) is a Tollywood film produced by M.S. Raju and directed by Sobhan. The film stars Prabhas, Trisha, and Gopichand. The music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. This film was the first success of Prabhas after previous unsuccessful fiilms. The film was remade in Tamil as Mazhai starring Jayam Ravi and Shriya Saran and in Oriya as Barsa My Darling. It was dubbed in Hindi as Baarish.

Plot

The film was loosely based on the Ramayana. Venkat (Prabhas) and Sailaja (Trisha) are youngsters who first meet on a train during a rain shower. Venkat keeps bumping into Sailaja coincidentally every time it rains. This makes them both feel that it is perhaps the rain that keeps bringing them together, and they start to fall in love. Venkat is mesmerized by Sailaja's beauty, charisma, and childlike behavior. Sailaja, also, is impressed by Venkat. Due to unfortunate circumstances the two are drawn apart. At the same time that the two meet, Sailaja catches the eye of antagonist Bhadranna (Gopichand) who also becomes infatuated with Sailaja. Venkat and Sailaja meet in Warangal again and believe that they are meant for each other because it rains every time they meet. Ranga Rao (Prakash Raj), Sailaja's dad, is a typical black sheep with all kinds of bad habits. In the process, he is ready to marry off his daughter to Bhadranna for money. Ranga Rao plants certain ego problems in the minds of Venkat and Sailaja in order to break them up. This causes Venkat to leave Warangal for Vizag. And Sailaja prepares to become an actress (her father convinces her). Later on, Bhadranna kidnaps Sailaja. The rest of the story is about how Venkat rescues Sailaja from the bastion of Bhadranna and how he clears up the misunderstanding with Sailaja in the process.

Allegory

Throughout the movie, there is strong allusion to the Hindu epic Ramayana. Indeed, the story parallels the Ramayana in many ways, Venkat being an analogous Rama, Sailaja his Sita and Bhadranna being Ravana analogue. Towards the beginning of the movie, as Ranga Rao enter's Bhadranna's residence for the first time, he proclaims - "లంక లాగ ఉన్నదే" - "this looks just like Lanka". Later, during a live play of the Ramayana at his house, upon seeing Rama take Sita back from Ravana, Bhadranna stops the actors from continuing the play and demands the script be changed immediately by having Ravana tie the mangalasutra around Sita's neck. Similarly, at the end of the movie, during another live play of the Ramayana, Rama shoots a large Ravana effigy with a burning arrow, and it is this burning collapsing Ravana that ultimately kills Bhadranna, leaving us with the final allegory of Rama killing Ravana and rescuing Sita.

Shooting Spots

Venkat(Prabhas) and Sailaja(Trisha) confirm their love at a Temple while it's raining. This vital scene was shot at the Nandi statue of Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal city. ‘Mellaga’ song was shot at the same temple.

Engeyum Kadhal (English: Love is Everywhere) is a 2011 Tamil romantic musical-film written and directed by Prabhu Deva that stars Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles. Featuring music by Harris Jayaraj, it was produced by Kalpathi S. Agoram and released on 6 May 2011 to mixed reviews.  The story revolves around a girl living in France who falls in love with a boy coming from India. According to Upperstall.com the film "seems to be a straight rip off from Billy Wilder's Love in the Afternoon starring Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn, made way back in 1957".

Plot

The film is set in France and Italy. Kamal (Jayam Ravi), a young billionaire, doesn`t believe in love. He works hard for 11 months and takes a month`s break from all the work related commitments. Celloist Kayalvizhi (Kayal for short or Lolita for Kamal) (Hansika Motwani) believes in true love and is highly fascinated with Indian culture. Then she sees Kamal one day and it is love at first sight for her, but before she can follow him he gets into his car and goes away. Her father Rajasekhar (Suman) runs a small detective agency in France and Kayal often reads her father`s case files for interesting stories. One day, Rajasekhar gets a new client (Sonu Gates) who wants to know about his girlfriend`s mystery man. After a brief investigation, Rajasekhar finds that his client`s girl friend is dating Kamal. Sonu gets angry and decides to kill Kamal. Kayal overhears the conversation and deciding to save them, rushes to their hotel. Sonu has sent some men to kill Kamal and he is on his way there. When Kayal reaches Kamal's room she finds the door locked from inside. Without knowing what to do Kayal tries to get inside through the balcony. When she was about to enter she hears a gunshot and faints in the balcony. By this time sonu's girlfriend has escaped from there. Just when Kamal is about to win the fight Sonu enters the room and threatens Kamal with a gun. Then he searches for his girlfriend he can't find her, instead he find Kayal in the balcony. Then he thinks that Rajasekar has made a mistake and apologizes to Kamal. Understanding that Kayal has saved him, he tries to get to know her better during their incidental meetings and even though Kayal tries to resist she cannot. Kamal leaves Paris for some board meetings and Kayal is heart broken. When he returns he doesn't remember her immediately even though she has been waiting for him. Kayal tries to make Kamal love her by pretending to have many boyfriends. Kamal does get a bit jealous and he decides to get a detective to know everything about her and her possible boyfriends. Initially the detective he chooses is Rajasekar Kayal's dad. Kamal doesn't know Kayal's name, but he says about all her fake boyfriends. Rajasekar realizes that the girl's boyfriends' names are same as the names of the people in his case files realizes that Kamal is actually inquiring about his daughter, Kayal as only she has seen them. He tells Kamal about it and asks him to leave his daughter as he always does when someone falls in love with him. Kamal agrees and tells Kayal that he will be leaving for Germany and that he doesn't know when he will return. Kayal is heartbroken. Kamal tries to forget her but find that he cannot as he realizes that he too loves her. So he returns to Paris and finds her. But Kayal is angry with him and walks away. Kamal runs after her saying that he is in love with her and will never leave her and they will be together thereafter.

Critical response

The soundtrack received positive reviews from music critics. Indiaglitz mentioned that "Overall, Engeyum Kadhal is one of the best albums of the year. All of the songs bear the Harris stamp and "Engeyum Kadhal" and "Nenjil Nenjil" stand out to be real melodies. "  C. Karthik from Behindwoods.com gave a 3/5 rating and said "Overall, Engeyum Kadhal is a breezy, romantic album with a few different sounds and percussions. A few songs bear the typical Harris Jayaraj stamp and the rest are ready to stay in the Top 10 list for a while. We feel that Harris wanted to play it safe, devoid of any experiments, though Bathing in Cannes could appeal as a new genre in Tamil music. The album will definitely appeal to the masses and once the videos go on air, it is certain to make more people inquisitive!"  Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff also gave a 3/5 rating and said "Engeyum Kadhal might sound, at times, like it's a mishmash of Harris Jeyaraj's previous works, but it does have its melodious moments, and those make the album worth a listen."

Release

Reception

This film received mostly mixed to negative reviews, with most critics agreeing that the film was high on production values, but lacked substance. Rohit Ramachandran of nowrunning.com rated it 2.5/5 stating that "Engeyum Kadhal was marketed as a breezy entertainer. It delivers what it promises.".  Pavithra Srinivasan from Rediff gave 2.5 out of 5 stating that "Engeyum Kadhal is one of those movies that promises a lot, but delivers little. Watch the film only if you're in the mood for arm-chair travel to Paris and foot-tapping music".  Behindwoods gave 1.5 out of 5 saying that the film was "all glitz, no substance", further adding that "although Prabhu Deva has major supporting features by his side, he has failed to utilize them to the fullest."  Sify stated that the film "tries too hard to maintain a tempo, but save for the crackling chemistry and some charming moments involving Ravi and Hansika, the film is just average".

Box office

The film had an average opening and the collections in Chennai were INR2.50 crore after 3 weeks. It was declared an 'average' film by the trade pundits.
